Anyone got any recommendations with regards to books on tips and help on photography and processing photos in CS4?

Also, which magazines are best 'bang for buck'?

I've found 'Digital SLR Photo' to be good, its the one with the word 'SLR' in a box on the front cover. It's a bit harder to find that other magazines but I find it better.

I have found the books by Scott Kelby CS2/CS3 & CS4 for digital photographers (New Riders) to be very easy to follow.

Outdoor Photography is the only magazine I bother with anymore. Standard of photographs is much better and the articles are more varied and interesting than other magazines IMO. Of course, if outdoor photography doesn't interest you then give it a miss ;).

Depends on what you are most interested in really. I love "Black and White" magazine, and "Outdoor Photography" in particular, but often buy "DSLR User" when I can find it. Digital Photo is all about processing, not so much about shooting, but useful if you need to learn about Photoshop stuff.

As for books......."Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson (ISBN 0-8174-6300-3) is a really useful one to have as a starter. I agree about Scott Kelby's books too....but he has a weird sense of humour!!

I have bought a few camera magazines before, but I couldnt tell you the title, Ialways seem to pick up a different one.

I will keep my eyes peeling for the dslr user and outdoor photography I think.

I have put that book on my Birthdya list too.

As mentioned above "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is meant to be a good book.

Picked a good book up in Costo Derby, this was for Photoshop elements 7 (about £7.00), but I guess they may have the one that you want as they do have others.

Also I tried quite a few different mags over the past few months, but settled for the Canon Photo Plus mag £3:99 a month and comes with a good tutorial disc.

Not a book - but this site is a very good resource http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop! I have found it very helpful, in addition to that it links to brilliant graphic designers with more tips and tutorials on how to do things in PS!

Also http://psd.tutsplus.com/

And my absouloute favorite of them all http://abduzeedo.com/tutorials - this guys site is brilliant and he himself does some corking stuff!! Highly recommended!

Personally find tutorials more helpful than books as you are learning and doing! And get to see some results!
