Hi,

Looking to get a CSC .

Looking at the g15, but can anyone recommend anything else ?
 
To do what? Sony Nex for playing or in addition to full system, Panasonic GH2 or GH3 for seriousness or replacing current gear. Selling my GH1 was one of the biggest mistakes I've made.
 
The fuji xe1 (xpro1) - Sony nex systems will trump the m4/3rd gear for pure image quality without question due to the sensor size. So I'd recommend one of those systems for 'seriousness' and the m43 for play!
 
Well I'm blown away with my new Olympus OM-D EM-5 but it cost a real large bag of gold coins.

The functionality, build quality and results are fantastic.

Just my 2p

I don't even know what a G15 is but I have used a Nex camera and several micro four thirds cameras (E-PL1, E-PL3, GF3, G3). The Nex is the best for image quality but is let down a bit by lack of lenses and slow autofocus. The G3 is by far my favourite of the m43 cameras - reasonable usability (not great but better than the Olympus cameras), fast AF, viewfinder, swivel touch screen, 16mp sensor with decent image quality.

You can pick up the G3 body only for around £220 and pair it with a good prime like the 20mm f1.7 or the 45mm 1.8 or get the original 14-45 from digitalrev for around £120.

Or if you go the Nex route a 5n (if you can still find one cheap) or an F3 are good value and the lenses I liked are the 16mm with the wide angle convertor (mainly for the fun factor and the small size rather than IQ which is okay but not great) or the 55-210 zoom and the 50mm 1.8 prime. Or any legacy lens and a £10 adapter - lots of good 50mm primes on ebay from £15 upwards (Minolta, Olympus, Pentax, Canon, Zeiss Planars, Takumars etc). (The Nex is a great digital back for old manual lenses.)

Only makes sense to get the EOS M if you are wanting to use your Canon lenses on it (allow an extra £100 for the adapter though).

Otherwise the Nex F3 at £249 after cashback seems much better value:

The F3 has similar features to the EOS M plus a few extras like the tilting/flipping screen and built in flash but no touch screen. The Nex has much longer battery life and the autofocus on the Canon is apparently even slower than the Nex.

If you want faster AF and a viewfinder the Nikon 1 V1 is £260 - it was over £800 when it was released just over a year ago. It has a much smaller sensor though.

Or the Panasonic G3 body (£220) and the 20mm lens (£220 after cashback) works out at the same price as the EOS M but you get faster AF, a viewfinder, swivel screen and a 3 year UK warranty.

The Samsung also looks interesting at the price and with the cashback and free tablet deal - I don't know anything about this camera though.

Was told that there was already an owners thread.

Unfortunately I've had a bad experience with my nx1000.

Was having a play last night in a low lighted room and the camera wouldn't focus and the image quality when I managed to shoot was poor with the appearance of camera shake.

I went back to currys to be insulted by the manager, he insisted that I didn't like the camera and that was my reason for bringing it back. He repeatedly asked me to demonstrate the fault in a well lit store.
I managed to demonstrate the poor image quality but he was insistent that it was of good quality and refused to refund my money even though I had my receipt and the camera was less than 24hrs old.
He did however offer me a store gift card or another camera:- they were convinced that I didn't like the camera!. I'm sure this was breaking consumer goods act. They mentioned that if the camera had no fault when they returned it to Samsung that the store would be charged and this is why they wouldn't refund. They also told me that they would re-sell this camera if I chose another or got the gift card ???

Anyway, I took the camera to another currys who took the camera under the till and confirmed there was a fault with the camera, they offered me another camera or my money back, so I grabbed my money with 2 hands, in my experience when something goes wrong like this I should jump back in straight away in case a dodgy batch is the cause.

So I'm now without a cpc, I saw you're pictures taken yesterday with your nx1000 and the quality looks excellent. I like the ability to adjust the settings using the lens to scroll.

It's sorta put me off. I'm going to hold off until the price on lenses goes down. I wasn't overly keen on the cash back and tab 2 redemption - the whole sending off receipt.

Sounds like a weird problem, do you still have those images?

Did you not get your tab2 in store when you bought the NX1000? If you were to buy an NX again, i'd try buying it online as Littlewoods (ISME), Amazon and Jessops actually sent the Tab2 with the camera, no need for this 28 day after purchase, sending letter away non-sense. A quick Google suggests that Curry's don't give the Tab2s out, even online. They're only losing themselves customers with that weird way of working.

There was probably nothing wrong with the camera.
Low light & middling aperture & no stabilisation & slow shutterspeed & high ISO all contribute to slow-focussed shaky, dim and grainy pictures which can give the impression of a faulty camera but really that's just the worst conditions to try a NEW one out.
With more experience with it you would have found settings to improve such photos, and could also compare with bright outdoor shots the next morning.

It's up to you, but I think you were hasty.

Still, with all the money back you might get a January bargain ...
 
I was wondering if the OP had been used to his other cameras which pick higher ISOs. For some reason some of the NXs limit what high ISO you can pick in auto modes (including shutter mode). You have to over-ride it in the menu. I don't know what that limit is on the NX1000, for the NX5/10/11/100 it was iso800.

I don't think there was an ISO limit.
I did have a good play with the camera even during the day. I think I've still got those pictures on a memory card.
Something just wasn't right, whether it was the camera being faulty which was my belief or the camera was no where near as good as I wanted.
Either way its gone :(
I'm not looking to replace my 60D just something to take out with me, something compact, I think I should stick with canon, as its a brand I know. And also I won't be shopping in currys if I can help it!

My Tab also came with the camera from amazon, just had to wait 10 days for the £50 cashback.

Better doing it that way. I read that jessops allow you to have it in store but are around £30 more expensive than currys. Probably worth the £30 to save the hassle!
