Well, the sun shone for a while, and the wind dropped a little, and they came out to play. This time I was ready!

Difficult to capture the images though, but lovely creatures to watch, I hope you like them!

ID would be appreciated, please, and also recommendations for a book that will help.

Thanks.

Thanks for the comments and the link Geoff, a very useful site.

I may be wrong, but I think they are a male Large Red, and a male Common Blue.

Confirmation would be appreciated, thanks.

Both ID's correct.

Try "Britain's Dragonflies" by Smallshire & Swash ISBN 1-903657-04-0

Thanks for the comments, guys, and thanks also for the book recommendation, Mark, I will look it out. (y)

Two lovely shots of them.

If you look for that book, make sure its the 2nd edition - its much better than the first one which is what was quoted above.

Its called:
Britain's dragonflies (A field guide to the damselflies and dragonflies of Britain and Ireland) by Dave Smallshire & Andy Swash

The number on the new edition is: ISBN 978-1-903657-29-4
