I have read lots of people on here recommending the red snapper tripod RS-283.

I'm looking at the RS-325. It appears a little heavy but its compact when folded and has good height when extended. £124 appears a good price. I can't find any video reviews on it which is a shame.

Is this the best budget tripod for walking/ cycling (20miles)?

perhaps he means 324

oops, yes 324.
I was looking at the 324 with 528 head (£125)
I'm not sure if the 500g weight reduction is worth the extra £100

To be honest, I'm not sure what head I want to work with but my HAMA has 3way panning head.

For additional info my biggest setup is d5100+sigma 70-200 + sigma tcx2
I would like a tripod to be about 1.5m not extended so I can stand up and use it.

Others are Benro or Hama traveller (very cheap)

Perhaps this will help,
I have had a RS283 (which was the older version) along with the RSH24 3 way head for the past 2 years.
The 283 I have found to be excellent in use and good value for money.
The RSH24 head I did not get along with it at all.
I am about to purchase RSF284 along with the RSH12 Ball head.
My youngest grandson will have my original 283 combination.
I am 5’ 9” and had no problems at all with the height of the 283.

Thanks for that Keith.
Do you find them very stable with a large lens on?
Are they easy to carry and quick to deploy?

In your opinion I should look at the ball head then. I can see the advantages for levelling but what about if I want to make a panorama? Can you lock one axis?

I always carry mine in the carry case. Which presents no problems, I have found no difference to any other make to deploy.

I would say yes.

That I cannot say. Ring Joe at Redsnapper, I understand he is very approachable.

Thanks.
I have now reduced the search to 3 models based limited by my budget, £150.
Benro A-297 with ball head. This is one of their Versatile range.
Vanguard Alta+ 264ap with a weird 3 way head
or the redsnapper

I have seen the other 2 in my local store (the vanguard is really well placed at £130).

you can lock the ball part on the expensive ball head, and have just left n right movement from the bottom of it, there's a seporate lock for that :-)

Joe hasn't been about for weeks now, i messaged him about part that had become faulty on my tripod he replied initially i have not heard or seen him online since i provided a photo and more info on part i needed.
