Perhaps if you zoomed in on some of the reeds and left out the sky?

I like what you've tried to capture...I'd have preferred to have seen it in landscape, and a lot closer in on the reeds!

An ND grad may help bring out details in the sky.
In photoshop you could bring out the foreground details quite easily using the highlight and shadows option.

I hope you dont mind, but I have played with your last image, Highlights and shadows altered, cropped and motion blur added to stems.
