Refillable ink cartridges

It has been suggested to me that using refillable cartridges would make more sense than using a CISS, I can understand this as I don't print enough to use CISS.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this area and where to get the best inks, it seems I can find a lot of websites offering their own brand of ink but is this a compromise on quality?

What's the best thing to do?

There could be issues with colour consistency across batches?

If I could buy genuine Canon inks to refill the carts, I would happily do so but after a bad experience with a cheapo cart, I would never use one again (or cheapo inks as refill). I've got 10 year old prints on the wall which show NO fading and a couple of the prints I did with the cheapo that faded in the same frames after a matter of weeks. (The colours were off from the start as well. Can't comment on nozzle blockage since I changed the cart out PDQ and flushed it with genuine ink.)

Within the last few days I've just switched to the Lyson Refillable Ink Cartridges. I did a lot of searching and heard many good reports about these but I use an Epson R2400 and can't say if they would be available for your Canon or be the same quality.

However, I'm still unsure of the results. The intial prints I made used the Generic Lyson Profile on Epson paper and there was a considerably difference in colour between Lyson and Epson, with Epson very closely matching the Screen. Lyson had a colour shift and was darker.

I bought the Ink Set from SpecialistInk and they offer a free profiling service and I'm waiting to receive that before going further. I'll come back with the results when I have them.

In respect of Canon - I have a small iP4500 which is mostly for office work but the photo prints that I've put through it occasionally have been very good. I did try off the shelf 3rd party cartridges from 7Dayshop. These were not new but refilled and were a disaster in that many of them never worked at all. I got a refund in the end.

I use a Cannon IX6500 with refillable cartridges from Rapid Resolutions Had problems to start with to which they were very helpfull and now runs fine.
My son also uses a set now for his Epson printer as so much more economical.

Bottled ink for my Cannon I get from Pro Print as they do the genuine Ink as well as third party. Hope this is of help.

I usually get my genuine inks from 7dayshop but sometimes see them on special offer in Tesco (of all places!) so stock up when I do.

I've been using a set of fotospeed refillable cartridges and their inks for an Epsom 2880. Colours and black and white are both excellent as long as you get the paper profiled. I've used CISS in the past and while fiddling about with syringes is a pain it is better than all the trailing tubes and air bubbles

Just got my Custom Profile back from Marrutt (Specialistink.com) and the results are now identical to those I got when using the Epson Inks.

So, very happy so far with Lyson Inks.

The filling process is very straight forward but can get a little messy if you get the occassional air lock and blowback. I found tilting the cartridges with the filling hole higher than the breather hole to be the best option. Gloves essential and also I've labelled each syringe so that no cross contamination can occur.

(Biggest worry was ensuring I got the right ink in the right cartridge :) )

I'll try and post back when I've run some more prints through the system.

Hi

I used fotorite with a canon also marrutt with an epson 3800 both once profiled gave good results

Just ordered Marrutt again for Epson 1500w

Good system yes you can get a bit inky and I would not use them if I was selling prints but for my pleasure they work well

First of all it depends what printer you have, as to whether, they make refillables for it.
I have always been happy with Ink Express of Wolverhampton, speak to Alex if you want some advice.

I have bought a set of refillables from Fotospeed for my Epson 3880 but will probably use Ink Express for the pigment inks
I have read some poor reports about Lyson and Marrutt inks.

Problem with the vast amount of reviews on the Internet is that you can find arguements that support both sides. I do feel that more people are likely to post negative reviews than those that are just happy and get on with it rather than post a positive review.

I found a good many positive reviews for Lyson and enough to make me take the plunge.
