Reformatting cards

I get a message saying the card cannot be reformatted?
Any ideas?

In brief, today I erased by mistake the images on my camera using this card.Now I get this message.I'll buy a new card.The message appeared yesterday after I had tried to use the card in a card reader; I messed up the card reader, bought a new one and now I'm trying to reformat the same card.

Guess it depends what you mean by messed up the card reader.

If you have a Windows box, reformat the card, make sure you don't store any files on the card, then go through the proper process to safely eject the card.

Cameras typically just delete the files rather than what PCs call a format (rebuilding the filesystem) and the'll often stop if they see any unexpected files on a card.

"messed up the card reader" :bent a coiple or so of the prongs trying to fotce the card too much, if that makes sense.( or so Jessops told me)

That may well have dammaged the card.
