Remote cable

Got a cheap wireless remote off ebay,but not really happy with it. The fixed part that goes on the camera is ok for using manually, it is just when using it with the remote there is an inconsistent delay in the firing.

Now the bright idea, and this is where it would be helpful if people say if its mad, is to get a fixed remote and to cut it in the middle of the lead. I would then join it up with a lenght of additional wire in the middle (somewhere between 18 to 30 feet).

Has anyone done this and how did they find it worked?

I got a Hähnel cable remote for my 50D and it uses simple 2.5mm jacks and sockets to all plug together. There's a stubby cable which plugs into the camera with a socket on it, then the remote which has maybe 8 inches of cable on it with a jack, so you can plug this straight in and have a nice short cable for tripod work, and then it has a 5-6foot extension cable which gives you a lot more room to play with. Obviously you could pick up another extension cable to double the length. Tis the way I'd do it.
