Remote camera, triggered automatically?

Yes
Is there anyway i can set my camera up with a triggering device that will fire the shutter when a beam is broken?

Reason for this is i have an event to do with 2 great positions for photos.
My problem is that one position is 150m away through a forest! So i cant see the position to trigger with a Pw or similar

Ideally id like to have the camera and lighting set and have it take a shot when a competitor comes through, while i work away further up the course.

Any ideas?

Easiest? Find yourself a second shooter - someone looking for experience.

You could also find a sparky who could rig the PW to trigger when the beam is broken. Can't think of anything already out there that would do this.

Not so sure I'd be happy with my gear 150m away and out of sight.

Unfortunately my second shooter has mechanic duties on the day!

My Gf will be handling the printing and the remote camera should be set up only about 10m from her, so it should be safe enough. Maybe use my compact rather than the mk3 though lol. Besides theres £5-6k bikes left lying in ditches until the end of the day and its usually safe enough.

Just thinking its really shouldnt be that hard to make something. Just need a beam and sensor with some sort of output and i can mod it from there to work i think.

I think Maplins do something ..... there was a guy on telly shooting bats at night and he mentioned that he got a system from there

HiViz are the main folks for camera triggers, but there are various kits available from other electronics companies - not necessarily designed for specifically this purpose, but they do the job.

I got a sound trigger circuit from Quasar, but they may have something that could work as a light trigger too.

What I do is put the trigger into an RF-602 transmitter's sync port, then have the RF-602 receiver going to the 10-pin port on my D300s/D200/D100. When the trigger fires the transmitter, that fires any number of cameras or flashes on receivers.

Good stuff thats excatly what i was hoping to do :D
Well almost. Ill have secondary transmitter in the hotshore as normal, set on a differnt channel to fire my flashes once the camera is triggered

Maplin used to do an IR sensor for £19 with 20m range but now discontinued. Might have to buy something premade for diffent use and fiddle with it lol.

Cheers for the advice :D

That's what I did with the sound trigger I got from Quasar. It wasn't specifically designed for my purpose, but a bit of tinkering and tweaking and it's doing 90% of what I need. :)
