What should I go for?

Ideally it'd be wireless/IR but I can't find any official Canon remote that isn't wired.

What's the 'official' remote for the 450D?

Is there a good 3rd-party wireless remote?
 
I can confirm that the RC1 works with the 450D. Fits nicely on the strap so always with the camera.
 
I bought the RC1 remote for my 450D. Works OK from in front of camera but not very well from behind. This is because it uses the sensor which is located on the front of the camera.
 
That's a bit silly. Do you think it's worth getting a wired one instead?
 
Don't you have to have the wired one to use the bulb mode properly?

I have got the RC1 and have had no problems using Bulb exposer, just click to start and click to finish!!:)

I can see an advantage in that, but if you want to take a picture of youself, then you can set the 2second delay and hide the remote in your hand!
Yes i know it has a self timer, but this will stop you rushing to get in the shot;)!
