Remote release broke really quickly

I bought a relatively inexpensive (£15) hahnel remote release for my G3. It is true that I worked it quite hard, but after only a couple of weeks it has become unreliable to the point of being pretty much useless.

Does anyone happen to know:

Are remote releases only really meant for occasional/light use? This one certainly has a flimsy, "plasticy" feel to it.

Would a (much more expensive) Panasonic remote release stand up to heavy use any better than the hahnel?

Are there other third party remote releases that would be better than the hahnel?

Or should I reasonably expect the hahnel to keep working and so send it back as faulty?

Can't help directly with your release / camera set up, but I would have thought it should last longer than a few weeks.

I would return it as a faulty item - I presume working it quite hard just means you've used it very often over the past few weeks ?

Send it back, found Hahnel customer service to be very good when I dealt with them (sent me a spare lead for nothing after I mislaid mine)

Last remotes I have bought were the cheapo wired ones from Ebay for about three quid, seem to last ok
Have also got a Hahnel Giga Pro wireless remote and that has been fine, well made too
 
I've always found hahnel equipment to be rather robust and quite reliable even if it was used regularly. I think you may have got a dud and you should send it back. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem getting a new one.

UPDATE: I emailed hahnel. They were indeed very helpful. I have sent it back to them as they say they will repair or replace - I get the impression they genuinely want to have a look at it to see why it failed. Very good. Thanks again.
