Remote shutter release

Hi does anybody know of a remote shutter release that works with Nikon D3100, I bought one for £3 from Hong Kong as it said it works with D3100, it focuses but doesn't take the picture, so just want to make sure if I buy another it will actually work.

Did you get an IR or cable release?

If you can hear the AF working but the shutter won't release then perhaps the camera isn't achieving focus?

I emailed the seller yesterday and he said it didn't work with the D3100 - can you confirm it does as I don't want to buy something thats a waste of money

Works fine for me.

The official MC-DC2 works with D90, D5000 and D3100.

Which port did you put it in ? The one that has arrived as a rectangular connection..

Worked it out - I've removed the metal sheath from the male part of the remote as it was a little lose and would've made the fit too snug

I purchased one of these from ebay. I had to do the same as above and remove the outer sheath. It was to tight a fit but works OK without this cover.
