Need some help...

I've got two machines on a wireless network, the main one running win7, the second running vista home premium.

What I wanted to do is use the Vista machine which is a small Acer Aspire linked via HDMI to my TV as a slave from the computer to run slideshows movies etc controlled by remote connection.

The firewall on it is disabled, I can ping it and if I fire up remote connection I can see the main user account with the correct image set to that user but it will not accpet the password which I know to be correct!

Any ideas why the password would be any different or waht I am doing wrong or is there any other software I can control the slave with thats free and easy to setup over a local network ?

Another thing I want to do if possible is control the screen on the slave so it shows on the salve rather than broadcasting it on my main machine????

does it explicitly say "password incorrect" or does it say something like "this user is not granted remote desktop access" ?

a remote desktop will disable the screen on the remote computer.

you need something like VNC, be aware that videos will not play on the controlling machines remote window.

Neither, after a tad of playing I have now got the message:

Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is unreachable or incorrect.
Type a valid Remote Desktop Gateway server address.

Now I can ping the machine so I know it's there, I can see that Remote Desktop Connection is allowed in the settings and that the firewall (albeit temporarily on the main machine) is disconnected and not running at all on the slave.

What I can't see is anywhere to configure the RDG, is there something obvious that I'm missing such as aconfiguration ption to allow users to log in remotely apart from the little click box ?

A console or session 0 doesn't though does it? At least I'm pretty sure it doesn't on server OS's.

I agree though - VNC is the way to go :) Ultra VNC seems to work nicely on win7 too...

Will have a google :)

Anyone know a free version lol...

Thanks guys for the help, no IIS just two standard machines, think I may just have to go tue lazy route and buy a small wireless keyboard/mouse combo lol.

Would TeamViewer not help?
