My sister dropped her laptop and smashed the screen (I've sorted her out with my old one) so now I have a perfectly fine laptop with broke screen to turn into a media pc

If I can straight up remove it it would be great as that way the power button will be acessible and the keyboard will be usable ect

Just starting to undo screws and see how it comes apart, but will removal screw up the laptop and its standby when screens closed (fine as its disabled but if I reinstall then it might have a hissy)

should just be able to pull off the surround unscrew the old one and screw in a new screen, dunno if that's any help?

afaik you should just be able to take the screen off but don't quote me :)

There's usually a little micro-switch above the keyboard near the screen to sense if its open or closed, if you remove the screen, the laptop should just think its open.

As above, having removed the screen will make the laptop think that it's open. Not sure if unplugging the laptop screen will make it have a hissy-fit though :s
But it should be possible.

Which cables did you clip ? a ribbon and the power to the screen ?

You cut the monitor cable?! You could have just pulled it from the board. lol. What model Toshiba is it mate? I work with Toshiba laptops quite a bit if you want any advice.

It's just a very simple clipped in connector mate. It's on the left hand side of the laptop base above the keyboard. You might be able to save it by pulling the plug tbh.

You didn't cut the ribbon whilst it was powered up did you?.......

You should have unplugged it from the motherboard but even then some laptops are not happy running without a screen, most will though.

I did, not the brightest move tbh, worried that this bodes badly for passing my degree in engineering :bang:

is a really nice machine to work on now though :D

Staff??? You think I socialize with those creatures???

If you dig enough, there is a sub forum in the nature\zoo section especially for them. Kinda like a "meet your managers" in a supermarket.

scary place

edit - least its not in the nudes and glamour!!

Also am I now the middle tit?? lol

You're a decent kind of tit that's for sure. Thanks for heads up on staff section.

Did you know they have hidden forums called talkjaffa?
