Removing dust from inside lens

A couple of my lenses have a few specks of dust inside the front element group. This has never bothered me and isn't apparent on the images produced, but as I will be selling these shortly I would like to get them professionally cleaned, as I know they will be questioned if not "perfect".

Can anyone recommend a good company that is capable of doing this at a reasonable price? If you have experience of them all the better.

Michael, I had thought about that but was worried it could end up a lot more expensive :) One is a Canon EF-S 17-85, the other is a Sigma 170-500.
 
Give www.fixationuk.com a try..... They seem to be worth considering..

The 17-85 is quite easy. Remove the plastic cover with the lens details on it. There is a small 'hole' which allows you to prise this cover off. Do it gently so as not to bend or distort it as its made of a thin plastic.

Once this is removed you will see three small silver screws. Before undoing these, mark the position of the glass in relation to the barrel as this will ensure that you put the glass back in as it was. Use masking tape as this leaves no residue.

Remove the screws and put in a safe place, tip the lens upside down and the front glass should fall out. I recommend you have a large soft towel underneath to ensure no damage. Now clean the dust. Try not to get and fingerprints on the inside of the glass.

You might find that it takes a couple of attempts to get it completely dust free.

Reassembly is just the reverse and you've just saved yourself some ££££s.

I've never opened a Sigma but it is probably quite similar in method.
 
Thanks Michael - I have a couple of old lenses around that have been sat in a cupboard for years. Might give one of those a try first :)
