Problem with HP all in one printer C5180, error message OXC19a0035. Only a couple of years old, its the ink carriage thats failed (jammed?)

I dont print much in the way of photos, just the od 6x4, however, I use it for printing A4 info from the web and for photo copying various documents. My usage is still very light.

Seems such a fag to have repaired, not got box, one suspects a hefty bill? . . . when the cost of a new machine seems to be around £50-£100?

Any one got experience of the new Kodak machines specifically; 'Kodak ESP 3250' @ £62.50 from Tesco Direct inc delivery. I like the idea of £18 for an ink cartridge set . . . it will do my photo copy/scanning, any idea of the image quality? I have seen A4 samples in store, look OK, but in reality is it OK? sceptic . . . !

Dose any one have any other suggestions . . . or where I might try for a repair?

I gave up with inkjet printers years ago. I got a mono [B&W] Samsung laser around 5 years ago for £60. The toner lasted me at least 3 years, maybe more.

A year ago I got a Dell colour laser from Morgan Computers for £130 inc a spare set of toners. A great machine and I'm happy with it.

For photos I went the online way - much cheaper, simpler, no hassle. For quick one-off 6x4s I got a Canon dye sub, which cost me about £30 clearance price. Its prints are at least as good as you'd get from the High St places and online etc. Not cheap to use - 20p to 30p per print depending on how much you paid for the paper package, but it rarely gets used.

My Canon A3 has been flushed through and put in the loft. My HP on my desk here hasn't been used in weeks, and that's just sat here because I'm slow in finishing the ink off and putting that in storage too.

That in essence, is the way I'm looking at it, large pints, have them don commercially. The od A4, 6x4's and web info, print out on a cheap desk top machine. Hence looking at the Kodak. Ink is half the price of a similar Canon or HP, still a rip off, once you have the machine you have no options.

There is no competition, been round all the main outlets this afternoon, all £69.99, tell them that Tesco Direct do it for £62.50, you get the old chestnut, "cant price match web prices, no overheads" . . . etc, etc . . . ! load of ****ks!

12 x 8 [slightly bigger than A4] printed online at Aldi - 34p [postage £1.75 so best do a small batch at least]. You can't get anywhere near that price printing at home - and the Aldi prints are good. Had hundreds done.

Been and don it, new printer, Kodak 3250, simple, 'cheap as chips' and cheap ink too. I fought PC World to 'price match' on Saturday, they have it for £69.99, Tescos Direct have it at £62.50. PCW gave me all the guff about on line prices etc, so cant price match . . . I walked away.

Decided to bite the bullet, pay the extra, return 'if it did go wrong' can be a pain with on line stuff. So I went to the retail park in Colchester after work this evening. Lined up, side by side, Curry, Staples, PC World, again no budging, so I went into Staples, "price match, no problem Sir, we need to check it on line first . . . ". I walked out with a '3250' for £62.50 plus a spare cartridge set, normal price £18.00, they did the ink for 10% discount as part of the deal . . . a result

All I need to do is install it . . . get round to that later on.

I WILL be jumped on here ...but

dont use *compatible* inks
tried it in my Epson...bloody software recognized the non-OEM and locked me out

i was told here of all sorts of ways to buy/get around it

got better things to do than faff around with ink - bought Epson - works well again

ok only 8x10 and not too often

I see this as restrictive practice, illegal???

Having installed the Kodak 3250, my suspicion is that it is Epson based . . . ? There is no doubt the software looks the same as on an old Epson machine I dumped before the now demised HP. Epson ink nozzles always blocked up on me . . . Kodak are useing a 'user' replaceable nozzle carriage, into which the ink cartridges click, which I suspect is intended to gets over the problem, other wise, why make it obviously a disposable part. my humble opinion of corse

Question in my mind, cynic that I am, how much a new carriage? Are Kodak telling us the whole story in their advert . . . "save up to £75 on ink . . . a new set of nozzles in a 'plastic box', you will need a mortgage". I did say, I was a cynic . . .

Nice idea; the ink head alignment is automatic, not seen this before . . . am I behind the times?

We will see how things go . . .

I paid £20 for some refillable cartridges for my HP 6180 and £10 for 6 bottles of ink. Each bottle of ink holds the same amount of ink as 6 cartidges. I have now run out of ink and bought more so 6 full sets of ink the £30 and now another 6 sets for £10 or 12 sets for £40..... thats about 50p a cartridge. They take under 5 minutes to refill the full set with syringes and never had a problem!

Ditto for the Epson R2400 but with a occaisonal blockage needing a clean but otherwise no issues - the cleaning is only because I don't use the printer as often as the HP :)

They are not for all but I don't like paying full price... I even refill my colour laser cartridges

1st time i have seen an epson lock someone out, unless you clicked no to the do you want to continue warning that you are about to use none genuine inks.

IIRC it would not continue past the warning box

whatever - it didn't print

fitted Epson - worked....QED.......

Don't know if you tried these people http://www.inkredible.co.uk/Default.aspx but they have a compatibility guarantee and I've used their cartridges for Epson and Canon without issues.

i went to another printer today thats full of toner due to a 3rd party cartridge, voided the warranty there and then and told the customer to give it his best shot at trying to sue epson after his smart arsed threats.

he then tried to offer me £50 to fix it, i LOL'd him on the way out the door.

nice £800 doorstop he has now :)

My experience with printers is quite similar.

I also gave up on clogged inkjets a few years ago.
I've been using a Samsung mono laser for about 4 years and it's the been the most reliable printer I've ever seen.

I think if you are only printing the occasional photo then it would be better to get them done by a supermarket or high st shop.

I wouldn't recommend Kodak printers, if you need a laser printer then get a HP or Samsung.
