I have now had a lens in for repair for six months now: Current delay is apparently due to the Japanese Tsunami in March - even though the lens was put in for repair at the start of February: I wondered if anybody else has had, or is having, similar problems and if anybody can offer advice on what to do

Thanks

Stuart

canon, nikon, sigma other ??? what make lens and company are you using.. and why did it have to go there for repair? more info the more likely someone else might have simmialr experience :)

Tricky one without naming names .... which we wont do :)

As far as im concerned reputation is everything. I dont care how big the name is or how large their adverts are. I use one person (retired camera repair guy) & Fixation.

They are not the cheapest but i think the best.

You need to start kicking some butt here. Time to shout and chuck toys. Threaten legal and all sorts. Become a squeeky cog.

Can you get the lens back? it is after all yours.

what? we cant say if its canon or nikon ect ?

has it gone back to manufacturer or seller?

My money is on it being a Nikon :)
(read my signature, tongue-in-cheek mode is on!)

Sig corrected to make it simple

1DMk2, 5D Classic, 50D & a few lenses/flashguns. One day I might get acceptable at this, but only by switching to Nikon.

:)

Sorry: I'm new here!

Anyway I realised after reading the threads that some info was needed:

The lens is (or maybe should be was seeing it's so long since I've seen it) a 24-105 Canon L series lens which I've had for years: Love it, and hence the repair rather than replace: I took it to a reputable independent retailer who repair in shop so no complaints against Canon (or for that matter Nikon). I have no wish to name the retailer yet. Just seen things that say Canon is now back to optimum production so can't see why "waiting parts" is still an issue

Ask for it back and send it to canon. I wouldn't take the fluff they are coming up with.

Get it back and call Fixation

www.fixationuk.com/Fixation/Repairs.html

Or go to the people that messed you around with a box addressed to Fixation, get them to put the lens in the box. Seal it in front of them and ship it off. That way they cant blame you for anything they have done.

I fear that if you get it back it might be worse then when you put it in. Cover yourself somehow.

by canon's own admission (reading what someone posted here the other day) they're only just getting back to normal production levels, so i guess their parts dept may also have had a backlog?

right.. i read it as the lens was sent back abroad.... so the lens still here waiting for part... I would deffo get the lens back and tell them your fedup of waiting then send to canon elstree for repair.... its your lens they dont have any rights over it..

OR

Find out exactly whats wrong and what part is being waited for then phone canon elstree and ask if they can sort quicker

My guess is they've tried to fix it, not being familiar with it and broken more of it. Then they can't get bits and it's put to the back of the line...

My 24-105 took 2 weeks to repair at fixation 2 months ago, but I had a loan lens arranged free of charge (there some benefits to being a registered canon professional) :D

Wished I'd seen this earlier, sent my 24-70mm to Canon Elstree to calibrate, think I'd have better results using Fixation...
