hi guys

i dropped my canon 50mm lens and the front of the lens came off.i had it sent away through my mates camera shop to canon repair and the cost is as much as a new lens.it was originally held on by four clips which a couple have broken off.it also looks like it was glued on and was just wondering how to fix the lens.obviously super glue is a bad idea due to the solvents and would like to keep the lens if possible.any help would be appreciated

If its the 1.8 and if you are referring to the focus ring then gluing is out as it needs to rotate.
If its the bezel under the focus ring then you may get away with glueing it, I would use foam safe cyno if trying it as that shouldn't eat the plastic, but I am NOT recommending gluing it, I would just keep it for spares and get a new one.
 
If it is going to cost as much to repair it as buy a new one, what do you have to loose trying to fix it yourself.

Pop to a model shop and pick up some of their glue (shouldn't eat into plastic) and have a try at repairing it

best case -> you fix the lens and it's not really cost anything
worse case -> it doesn't work and you buy a new one and flog the broken one for spares (you might get something for it)

I'm not a lens dismantler myself but does the lens work without the bit that's fallen off? If it does what's the issue?
 
If you look into it you may be covered by you house insurance? worth a look!

its the 1.8 version neoboy
and the lens works fine with regards to focusing its just the lens mounting that came off.i will try to put a picture up in the next few days so you can see what i meen as that might be a bit more helpful ,thanks for the replys guys
