Replace a Nikon 18-200 vr on a budget

My Nikon 18-200 vr1 is giving me problems, don't have the money to replace it at this moment in time but only have a budget on £250 to get another lens, it will be mainly used for landscapes and maybe the odd portrait, so it will need to be sharp, any sugesstions please?

First whats the problem you having on the 18-200 VR? and second i would buy Tamron 17-50 f2.8 to replace if you only do landscape and abit of portrait. f2.8 on the Tamron is sharp.

I sold my 18-200 VR1 for only a tad more than £250. Can't remember how much but less than £300. I'm sure you could buy another for not much over budget.

Otherwise, how about an 18-105 or 18-135?
