I have been researching compacts for ages and I think that I have narrowed it down to the following
1. Panasonic LX7 - excellent lens and good reputation. Esp good for macro.
2. Pentax MX1 - excellent lens, also good for macro. Not too many reviews around but competitively priced
3. Fuji XF1 - nice styling and lots of fuji niceties. Lens quickly hits smaller aperture but has a marginally larger sensor than the others. Significantly cheaper. Truly pocket able.
Really undecided and could really do with some advice. Many thanks, Sarah

I love my XF-1! Not perfect but all it needs is an OVF. Great prints SOOC up to A3. On offer at Currys/PCWorld for £200. As you say, truly pocketable. Yes, the erture does narrow as it gets longer but at 25mm, the f/1.8 is wider than most of the competition. I also love my X-20 (and the X-10 I had before) but it doesn't slip into a shirt pocket.

I've been looking at the LX7 for a while. I'm going to wait until after CES in January, in case of any update announcements. I've not looked at the other two you mention, but I like the 24mm equivalent of the the LX7 and the 1.4 aperture. I'll be using it when scouting locations and for general snaps and video.

I've just got a replacement LX7 and have no regrets at all. Very versatile and capable of producing some good images if you know how to use it.

Enjoy it!

Almost certainly, any of the shortlisted cameras would do the job required of it so hopefully the OP will be happy with her choice - I know I am with mine. I have rather more cameras than I care to admit to and the XF-1 tends to be the one that gets grabbed and pocketed when I want to take a few shots. On our latest holiday, it was the most used of the cameras I took. Not sure which of Ricardo's photos have been taken with his LX-7 (IIRC, one he's posted was of a girl running on a beach) but a photographer capable of the shots he takes wouldn't replace a cr@p camera with an identical body!
