Several months ago I asked for advice on replacing the above kit lens for my 350D. Now its Xmas I can. At the time it was suggested that the

Tamron AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Canon

was the best I could buy in its price range. Is this still the case?

Is there anything else I should consider before I go ahead?
