Replacement for kit lens and not mega bucks

Is there a better replacement for the kit lens that is not mega bucks?

Do a fair bit of indoors shooting (7month old daughter), mostly with a niffty 50mm as the kit lens struggles due too poor light ( i know a flashgun would sort that problem but dont have one of them either yet).

So any recommendations for a better replacement that could become a good all rounder. Landscape maybe, indoors and walk about.

Tamron 17-50 is prob the best replacement. Looking about 200 ish for a secondhand one though, not sure what your budget is.

A good alround lens with a aperture of f2.8 throughout the range. You won't get much better if your on a budget

Just a thought, but have you considered buying a TTL compatible flashgun for probably less than £100 and your kit lens will suddenly become more useful indoors?

I spent hundreds moving from my Nikon kit lens to primes, I eventually bought a 90 quid Nissin TTL flashgun and suddenly had the full use of the zoom on my kit lens back!
