Replacement for my canon 28-135mm is

hi all
I was tempted to but an old 70-210mm but the wife has been kind and said i can get a 70-200mm f/4L:naughty:. So now i'm thinking of selling the 28-135 and getting something a little wider, I also have the nifty. This will be used as a everyday, leave it on the body lens. I would say my budget would be about £400.

I was thinking a bit wider still, so i think it will be a EF-S. I don't mind buying 2nd hand:thumbs:
 
Push the boat out and get a used Canon 17-55 2.8 for £600. Wonderful lens :thumbs:

I'd also add the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC to the list as well... I have one semi-permanently welded to my 40D and it's a beautiful little lens. Razor sharp with good contrast and they can be had for good prices lately.

Best thing to do would be to have a look at www.camerapricebuster.co.uk and have a trawl through the different options. :)

Do you have one or have you used one? There are better options on a crop sensor than the 17-40... Are you aware of the barrel distortion on the 17-40? The OP may not have software that's able to correct it!

Given the budget, I'd stick with either the Tamron or Sigma (either new or secondhand).

Hi Trenchfoot, I OWN the 18-50mm AND the 17-40 so my advice is based on experience! I'm not interested in what you're apparently going to buy... I'm just here to help the OP with his choice. ;)

Good luck finding a decent copy of the 17-40 for £400 too! :)
