Replacing macbook HD with Solid-State

Anyone done it?

I need a larger HD in my macbook and I thought I'd try an SSD. The Crucial site gives two compatible drives - 32GB and 64GB which is no good. I don't need huge! but would like 128GB or slightly larger.

Has anyone done this or know of a compatible drive of at least 128GB?
 
I didn't order my MBP with an SSD drive in the hope that I'll do the upgrade myself when they're a bit cheaper.

Granted, what I have isn't a MB ... but the upgrade should be just as easy and straightforward.

I think the best person to give feedback on this is TP Mac Guru, Mr. cowasaki.
 
Compare the SSDs with getting a 500GB spinning internal drive for under £90. I've done it and it's a lot of space. Clicky
 
I don't want (another) external. My laptop replicates my main work machine for when I'm on hols - which is most of the time ;) So, for travelling, I could do without any extra bits or boxes to lug around.
 
Macbooks like most laptops take 2.5" HDD. Therefore most but not all SSD will fit.

I say most because not all HDD (SSD or otherwise) are the same height and as such they wont all fit in the space left when you remove the original HDD from your Macbook.

For HDD I'd try scan.co.uk or overclockers.co.uk

As for fitting, on my MacBook it's easy. You remove the battery pull the drive out and then pop in the new unit before replacing the battery.

Once everything's back together you'll need to reinstall OS X.

There may be a couple of small screws to take out an replace can't remember off the top of my head. All in a really simple upgrade whether you go for an SSD or a larger HDD.

Personally I'd go for a larger HDD as oppse to an SSD but that's because I'd rather have the extra space rather than the improvement in speed. You may have different priorities though.
