How do you all resize your photos to post them on the Talk Photography site, Ive tried making up a folder but I dont think the photos Im trying to post are the right size, they are a bit big at the moment?

What software do you use??

I think you can also resize with Photobucket if you are hosting them on there.

For me it's a simple case of using a pre-determined export function in Lightroom, and an upload to my own web server. I just specify 800 pixels maximun longest edge and leave Lightroom to get on with it.

We might be able to advise you better if you tell us what software you're using currently to resize your images.

edit: too slow

Think that the size has to be NO bigger than 800 & have/be a max size of 200kb... I would say that the best way is to do it within an editing software...

But no doubt someone will be along to make certain of the size & best way...

I actually use Microsoft Office Picture Manager for simple tasks such as resizing - you can quickly switch into thumbnail view, select all images and resize then do save all, job done. It also has a very simple crop to ratio tool

CS5 and recorded two actions, 1 for portrait orientation and 1 for landscape orientation, both reduce the image to 800 pixels on its longest edge and resolution is set to 150 dpi, that works fine for the 17mp raw files that I convert.

Currently on trial at 1024 X 1024, is it not, although the gallery size remains at 800 with a 200kb max file size.

I don't see anything in the Image size poll thread to indicate a change from that.

Never knew that about the trial size of 1024x1024.... I've always known it to be the 800 & 200kb size but thanks for updating me though :p

Almost! It's 1024 max horizontal and 800 max vertical, not 1024 in any orientation.

I looked at Marcel's post of 28 August when he launched the poll:-

Extract: Therefore we want to poll the members again as to what size is preferable.
We're not going to go into the ins and outs of different resolutions, hence there is going to only be two choices.

800x800
1024x1024

Valid point, but if you read the Posting Rules carefully it says:
There is a temporary rule change, allowing images up to the maximum dimensions of 1024 pixels wide and 800 pixels high.

I'd glossed over that as well until it was pointed out here:

Keep 'em at 800 & under 200kb then you cant go wrong.... Thats until its cast in stone :p

You can use Microsoft Outlook (email package) if you have it? Send the pictures to yourself, but reduce the size (a tick box) while you're doing it. You can resize 100 pictures in 1 min!

 if you've got Outlook you'll have Picture Manager..why go through such a convoluted process? open picture manager, thumbnail view, CTRL+A, ALT+P, TAB+S and select which size you wish on the newly appeared right hand pane, save all
