Resizing images for HD projectors

I've been asked to show a few of my images at a local wildlife group. In the past I have just resized to 1024 x 683px at 72ppi and sharpened appropriately. On their old projector this was fine. I have just found out that they have a new HD projector with an output of 1920 x 1080.

Can anyone suggest how I should resize for this? I was thinking about 1620 x 1080 at 96ppi but haven't got a clue about HD.

I'm no expert but as long as it is at minimum <something> x 1080 would it not be ideal for an HD output? I'm guessing but since the number of lines across on the output would be 1080 then if the number of pixels across matched then it would give the most 'real' picture?
