Returning to the fold, or more specifically the canon fold :)

After a long break for oh so many reasons I've returned and found renewed enjoyement in photography. Away has gone my point and shoot, or into the back pocket in any event. Out has come, slightly dusty my 10D and my small collection of lenses.

My two favourites the 24-105L and the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, the first I use as my walkaround lens and the second obviously for macro but love it as a portrait lens.

I had my 10D within a month of it reaching these shores, still going strong though looking at the forums and various mags time and camera bodies have moved on.

Unfortunatly for me my two main photographtic loves landscapes and wildlife tend to polarise my view of kit, a new 5D for the FF and IQ or the 7D for the crop and reach for the wildlife.

The reality is for either I'll need either a new telephoto to do the 7D justice or a better wide angle for 5D landscapes as both my lenses as these extremes are budget.

At the moment I'm thinking 5D, as landscapes are my first passion and keep the 10D with a long lens until it dies or I can afford a 7D as well.

It's nice to be back and have all these conundrums to mull over

Funnily enough I did a comparison of my 10d against my 50d using my 85 and 100 lenses (85/1.8 and 100 2.8 macro). I was astonished at how much crisper the images were using the 50d, viewing both at 100% was a revelation. Not only were the 50d images larger but they had a much better IQ, so if I 'enlarged' the 10d images to the same size as the 50d images they would have been very soft indeed.
Where's this going? I think you will be dissapointed using the 10d with any good quality glass as the images will look soft.
The 24/105L will do the 7D justice (as will the macro lens), the 24/105 on a 7D will be wide enough for landscapes, efectively 38mm (roughly) surely? So a 7D plus a longer lens for wildlife would be the way I would go, with the option of getting a 20mm prime later if needs be.

Thanks for the thoughts Matt. I like the idea as I could also stretch to the 7D and a longer lens at the same time. Whatever I go for I'm sure it'll be a massive improvement on the 10D IQ wise.
