Reverse ring ??

I understand you can put a reverse ring on your body stick a lens on and you have a macro lens

Can someone please fill in the blanks like does it meter OK and what ring would I need for a Nikon D600 ?

I assume it would be manual focus only ??

I've not used one, but seen photos, the ring has a set thread size I believe, you attach the ring to the body and attach the lens to the ring. The one I saw had an additional section which was on a cable, you put this on the end of the lens and it controlled the focus, aperture etc.
