That's a pretty narrow DoF! I've never been real pleased with the macro results of flipping a lens because there isn't any control over aperture.

In some of the lenses, like this nikkor is aperture ring so you can control DoF

Pretty good effort, especially second, but think you'd be better investing in a macro lens - or keep practising with the reversing ring.

DOF can be controlled by puttting the lens on the camera the correct way and set you aperture then hold in the DOF preview button, while holding it in remove the lens. Some people don't suggest doing this as it may damage your lens. I've done it lots of times with no damage but you have been warned...
