Reversing ring, no pictures.

Have attached a reversing ring to my camera. Get a picture via live view but nothing on sd card, except a RAW file that is blank.

Equipment is as follows.

Nikon D5200 set to manual
Reversing ring
Nikon 50 mm 1.8 D set at f22.

Any help would be a appreciated.

Having reversed the lens, the electrical contacts are not connected. This means the camera thinks there is no lens attached so when you press the shutter release the camera will not actually fire the shutter. There should be a menu option somewhere to allow you to shoot with no lens or with a heritage lens.
 
Exposure? try a shot with the lens at say F4 and see if that makes a difference, failing that try shooting a video clip if your camera does video.

The release might, but is the shutter moving? For test purposes, I would switch off live view. My Canon in live view can give the impression it has taken a photo but if it is not happy does not actually actuate the shutter.
