RF 602 Canon 550d help - Remote firing

Hi,

I have just purchased an RF 602 unit (just transmitter and receiver) so that I can control my cameras shutter remotely. My camera is a Canon 550d but I am not sure if I have the correct cable or not. In the box I had the transmitter and receiver plus a cable which had a 3.5 jack on the end and a three pin fixing at the other to go into the receiver unit. The canon only has a mic socket on the side so am I missing/ did I buy the wrong ones? Is there a cable I need which works in the camera AV socket or something.

Any help would be great.

You need the right cable, which I think is often sold separately. It goes into the cable release socket on the side. There are two types for Canon, so make sure you get the correct one.

If you contact Flash In The Pan on here (see trade advertisers section) he usually supplies them for two or three quid.

It looks like the cable I got with them is too large for the remote release socket. It is more like a 3.5 jack. I will have a look for Flash In the Pan.

Looks like they do not work as remote shuttle controllers on the 550d as I can only find them with either a 3.5mm jack or a C3??
 
Don't you just stick the transmitter on the hot shoe and receiver is remote? Why do you need the cable?

Maybe because you can't fire the shutter through the hot shoe..

You need the correct cable to connect the receiver to the shutter release port.

I think the cable you want is the C1.
 
Alastair you are correct. I am just not sure which cable that is. C1 seems to be a 3.5mm jack and C3 fits in the front of other models.

I am going to get to the bottom of this haha

is there any remote shutters that will work through the flash mount (hot shoe) at all please (canon 50d)

Peter.. looking at this kit for the 550D it looks like Richard is right in saying the C1 is the right cable.

The mini-jack cable is the synch cable for flashes that take this connection. Not all suppliers include the remote shutter cable with the kit as this makes the kit specific to a limited range of camera models.

Flash in the Pan should be able to confirm for definite - and can probably supply it as well.
