I have been trying to improve my close ups ... i know its not brilliant but any tips on how to improve would be appreciated...

i have just been trying to 'do something' with it, i think its way over exposed and i cant seem to do anything to improve it, you have good DOF though.
Can you take it again?

as boon says, its a little overexposed, what settings did you use>?

Next time ... when you go back (or find another rose ?) try it without sunshine on a bright but overcast day and use reflector/s as necessary ? :shrug:

Or ... get someone to hold a light coloured (not multi !) umbrella over it ?

Avoid sunlight on flowers (or faces) if you can. You can try and persuade someone to shade it if you really insist on getting the shot.
