if i have the 70-200 on a D90 and i want to use extension tubes to help make it zoom further what do i need to buy and how much would i be looking at

Extension tubes will not make it zoom further. You want a TC but as you have the wrong brand I cannot advise

It's a teleconverter you need, Karl, not extension tubes. Nikon obviously do them, although they are quite expensive. Kenko do a cheaper line, but the build quality and fit are nowhere near as good.

I've owned both the Kenko and Nikon 1.4x versions and sold both pretty quickly again, just didn't like the softness they imparted to the image. Other people seem to like them though....
