First motorsport outing of the year, and what a day it was. Glorious sunshine, and varying conditions on the ground made for a great days rallying.
Left home in a rush, so all my careful investigations of stages was a complete waste of time, but it was great to get out into the forests and try and remember how to take photographs of cars again. It seems like ages since my last outing.
Drive of the day has to go to Alex Lund, who throws his MK1 Escort around from side to side and always seems to have a massive grin on his face.
It was my first time rallying since moving up North, and I'm looking forward to filling the calendar up, and heading to as many rallies as possible this year.
C&C welcomed.
Cheers

Hi Chris, Thanks for your comment, unfortunately I am limited to f4 on my 70-200mm, which is certainly not ideal for rallying, and I think most of these were shot at f4 or f4.5 to get the speed I wanted. One day I hope to have the cash to fund some better kit.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Lovely. pity about the clipping in pic 3. But I do love my Escorts

Thanks Raymond,
I was hoping no-one would notice the clipping. There wasn't a lot of action at that particular spot before that particular car came through, so I wasn't expecting it.
Cheers

I dont understand the obsession with tilting images on a forest stage . I know the circuit boys do it because rarely anything happens, but in a stage ? Sorry but spoils the set for me, "Soo for that reason,'am 'oot "

Well, accept my apologies for the angles. :)
I guess I do it as I like the dynamicism of a lot of the motorsport shots that use it, and don't see why it shouldn't transfer over to rallying. Personally, the only thing that gets me about it is the way the trees get a lean on.
It's only really the head on shots by the log piles that are that tilted though, at least I think so, perhaps I should get my legs measured!
Thanks for taking the time to comment though guys!

really like all the shots but especially the shot of the Subaru with the stones being thrown up... looks great

Mr Lund didnt make it out of the last stage, he passed us on the road as we were levaving, his escort looking verry s/hand, no o/s front wing, no screen and a verry bent roof, still had a smile on his face, TOP BLOKE

Really like some of these Matt, you've handled some tricky lighting conditions very well and produced some great images - particularly #1 & #2 which are the stand outs for me.

Personally I don't feel the 'tilting' is OTT here, certainly not something I noticed when looking through them anyway.

You must have been at the College Moor stage in the afternoon then, He passed me there at the end, looking like he had been turned back from the start. Scott looking battered. He put it off the road about 500m into the stage in the morning, and had to get pulled out by a rope, then went on to spin it at the hairpin about another 500m further on. Smiling all the way though.

@Flyhalf -Thanks, my next aim is to try and get some shots that could stand next to yours!! If only

3 and 4 for me. Cant say tilting bothers me too much and it seems to suit in this instance.
The last shot of the Subaru looks good too.
