Yes
And only want to take one lens.
Im sure its been asked many times before.....
What am i best taking?

18-200
30mm
50mm
10-20mm

Looking to see all the main sites and hoping for some nice pictures of them.
Id normally just take the 18-200 away with me as it covers most things, but thinking wider may be better or a fast prime may be ideal.

I'm off to Rome in 2 weeks and have been having the same dilemma. It have narrowed it down to;
50mm 1.4
70-200
10-24
I think Im swaying towards the 50mm but will most likely end up taking them all.

I think it depends on how much the photography is part of the visit.

Just had a look at the focal lengths I used for my visit to Rome last year, and the vast majority of images (about 70%) were taken at 16mm, the widest my 16-85mm can go. There was about 10% at about 40-50mm, about 10% at 85mm and the rest spread out over everything else in the 16-85mm range. I had my 70-300mm lens, but I don't think I used it.

There were times when I wanted wider than 16mm, particularly in the Pantheon to get the opening in the roof and the floor in one image, but I've taken a 10-20mm with me on a previous visit and hardly used it because of the versatility of the 16-85mm when walking around.

If it's only one lens, then I would take the 18-200mm. If you can slip in another I'd also take the 10-20mm.

Were it me, I'd go with ONE lens - it's just my opinion but it forces you to think more, see more and swap lenses less!

i would use the 18-200
you will need wide angle for a lot of shots - I had a range of 28 - 200 on a fullframe film camera and used the 28mm a lot

i think you need a lot of wide angle - but with the flexibility to change to some portrait shots in the markets and for closer shots

yep, 18-200 for me as well.

one lens and provides more flexibility. There's lots to photograph, some nice wide shots and some areas that you'll want to zoom in for. And don't forget, if you want ultrawide, set it to 50mm and take several overlapping photos and stitch when you get home :)
