Just a few photos from yesterday's showjumping, found it difficult to get nice photos as the majority of the jumps were facing either into the sun or away from the crowd- course builder built a bad course for photographers who were outside the ring!!

Took a while to get used to being outside of the ring again, for the past 4 weeks I've been in the middle of the ring so have been able to move about more which I prefer to do rather than using the higher end of the zoom.

Nevertheless I got a few okish shots, so here they are.

I don't normally shoot with the horse going away from me, but I think this angle works quite nicely, especially over a spread.

That's all from those 2 classes, I'm going back to the show tomorrow and hope to watch the 1.50m Grand Prix and some showing, so if I do, photos will follow.

wow, they r amazing :) just a shame some of them have other photographers in them as well

In spite of your being stuck outside the ring you still managed some great action shots, can you bring back some of the over exposure in pp at all? My favourite from this set is No. 3 where the are really flying.

Must be fun to watch the high jumping, I am doing a show next weekend where the highest jumps are 2' 6" so many of the horses don't get chance to really lift all four legs off the ground.

An very good set of shots, the half going away shot does work well and brings in a different perspective of the rider. You certainly have caught the right moment on most if not all of the shots with regard to the maximum energy being expended by the horse on take off. I like #10 where the rider is looking across to the next fence already, could maybe do with straighting, but very nice indeed.

Very nice set.I really like 2 and 10. Can I ask what lens and settings you were using?

Thankyou very much, that's the most positive feedback I've had on here ever :)

I was using a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens, along with the Canon 350D. Settings were on aperture priority, f4.5 I think, ISO 400. Up until about 3 weeks ago I've only ever used shutter priority, so getting to grips with new settings knocked me back a bit!

I went back today for the 1.50m jumping but it rained, and although I've got a few shots to play with, they are nowhere near as good as these :( If there's any nice ones I'll post them on here but really not expecting miracles, I was trying to keep my camera dry rather than getting good shots! :bang:

#2 and #10 are my picks for no particular reason, something about the composition probably appeals a bit more. (y)

How was the camera? after reading your other thread around here it sounded like the 350 was about to give up...

Those photos were taken both before and after the shards of glass incident, it was fine after I turned the camera off! I shot some more showjumping again today and even in the rain the camera was ok, so I'm guessing it was a blip rather than anything more sinister which is good!! ;)

wow! the shots are amazing O_O
the horses look so big, waw inspiring work you have here.
