Royal Mail lost my 10-22mm

Probably better just to leave this thread up so that anyone planning to sell you anything knows that you're doing this.

Oh and does the seller of the 10-22 know that you have this "arrangement" with your postie? I guess they do now, if they're a TP member.
 
I had a parcel that was late arriving so I phoned customer services (number should be on the royal mail web site) and someone there traced the parcel and told me that it had gone to the wrong sorting office and was held up there for a couple of days and that he would chase it up and find out what went wrong - the parcel turned up the next day :)

I'm banned from trading here so it makes no odds. It also makes no odds to anyone sending me anything either. The system is flawed -- like I said, I could hang outside a house and sign for something whilst pretending to maintain the front garden or whatever. I could just be standing in the porch and sign for something whilst pretending to be the home owner. How is a signature any proof really? As I said, I can never get my signature right on those little devices so I have no-idea how they'd prove it's mine. It looks absolutely nothing like my signature. :lol:

But whatever, you're welcome to your opinion -- regardless though, it still says on the system it hasn't been delivered and it's still in the system so it makes no-odds what-so-ever. Admittedly I've told you the short story. I got up at 6am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 'cus I was expecting valuable deliveries. I personally signed for my 50D on Tuesday and I was prepared to sign for my 10-22mm on those three days but it didn't arrive.

I ordered a £2 580EX II flash diffuser which is being sent as recorded for some weird reason, but like **** am I getting up at 6am to sign for that. The postie will sign it and bung it through our window. :D

Fingers crossed then. I know the sender was chasing up but I'll do the same tomorrow. Gunna be driving to Cornwall and back so gunna have lots of time to kill.
 
So, just to clarify.....

You've got a scam going on regarding the delivery of signed-for RM packages and now that one has gone astray you want the RM to sort it out for you?

If I was the seller in the case of the 10-22 I'd be sending a copy of the two threads here to the RM and possibly the police too....

Heaven knows, I'd guess postie signs it, my brothers not bothered, as he's often out it saves him going to the sorting office, so he's happy with it. Wayne

How is it a scam? We're hardly not signing for it and both pocketing the insurance claim-back as well as the item in question. :lol:

Seriously, I bet you're a well fun chap... I wish you were my friend. :lol:

Personally I wouldn't want £5k worth of stuff coming through the post, the posties leave mail all over the place, they have boxes by the side of the road they store stuff in, and some have un-official stashes as well, in peoples porches etc, I saw that on a documentary (watch-dog??) last year. I know our postie has a box, it's at the end of my street. Wayne

You're admitting that your postman and you have a scam running and now you've told the seller of a high-value item that it hasn't arrived and got a refund from him, yet you don't see any problem with this.

You sure one of your pals, you know the ones that use your TP account to advocate rape, isn't behind this? :lol:
 
You keep using the term 'scam' -- how am I scamming anyone? I'm not earning out of this, although I may as well be by the way you're going on about it!

To the first point, again when I was in retail, this was exactly what credit card fraudsters did, park in the road outside wait for courier/ parcel force van to pull up call out to them is that for house number whatever, say they were just going out sign for it and off they went, on the 2 occasions this happened to me both people were caught and sent to prison for fraud.


on the second item, postal fraud is very serious, a local postie got sent down for a good time for not delivering mail. Admitting that you have this agreement is plain stupid on an open forum and as others have said, if you do get rights to use the classified section again I would be most dubious of dealing with you.

Well, like I said, if I know anything valuable is due to arrive I'll make sure I'm there (in fairness mainly because I'm excited and I want it ASAP). Plus, I could be lying -- no-one knows. ;)
 
No read everything but you have more chance of getting your money back for your lens then I have for mine, They dropped my 24-70L during transit waiting for a response from the claim form.

Ouch!

I'm collecting a 24-105L tonight that I found on eBay. You just made me really relieved reading that. How can you prove they dropped it? It must be a nightmare trying to claim £800 off them!

In all honesty, I'm glad it was the 10-22 that got lost and not my 50D as that's worth a lot more and I needed it a lot more too as I sold my 450D a few days prior.

big dents on the corners of the box and parcel :S I have photos which was attached to the claim form[via email] am only claiming for repair as optically I can't see anything wrong Is just the AF system which is a bit nackered, although when it goes into canon to get a quote We shall see.
 
My partner arranged a deliver of a mobility scooter it was collected then returned to sender as to heavy after several phone calls it was collected again, It was taken from Watford to north London then to Coventry then sent to her in S.Wales It took 6 working days and a load of phone calls to get it. Now trying to claim our fee back. Bl---Y PARCELFORCE
 
I'm the seller of the said lens, and I've kept the RMSD receipt from the post office for 'proof' of posting.

I also (on the day after it was 'guaranteed ' to arrive) rang Royal Mail customer services, who are 'investigating' and will be ringing me with their findings.

I thought it only fair to refund the money to the buyer pending the outcome, and /or insurance claim.

My biggest worry is the bureaucracy I'll probably need to wade through trying to resolve all this :bang::bang::bang:

If it's any reassurance, when my parcel went missing (not RMSD either) I comleted a form in detail, posted off and a few weeks later, was refunded with a letter appologising for the inconvenience (standard letter, but still nice to receive something).
 
Never had the postie sign for something themselves, but on a couple of occasions signed-for items have been left on the door, or other the back fence (without signatures as far as I can tell).
Now they use the electronic records, you can't tell whether it has been signed for. It used to be whether the sticky label has been removed or not (as it had to go on their form along-side the signature).
 
My mate related the story of a postie they were investigating - when he called at the lad's house they discovered so much stolen mail under his bed it was nearly off the ground :lol:

I'd rather just get up and answer the door and sign for the thing myself...
 
I'm a posty. You know some of us are actually honest, conscientious, harworking individuals who treat your items with as much care as though they were our own.
There are alot of ar**holes who work for RM, like any large organisiation and i hate getting tarnished by the same brush.

I didn't mean to infer all posties were dishonest or lazy etc - the one that delivers my mail is a thoroughly decent, hardworking guy, but even after many years at the same address I still have to sign for any registered/recorded packages......
 
My postie is first rate too, if were not in he will ask a neighbour to sign for it, a couple of times he's tried twice to deliver an item and he's also seen my wife coming bacl from dropping the kids of at school and come back to the house to deliver, mind tbh i think he's a soft spot for my wife, so may haveto watch that.
 
all mail in the UK is insured to the value of 100 1st class stamps, currently £39 IIRC but you have to get proof of posting from the post office + provide proof of value before they'll pay out, I sold 2 lenses for £60 which never arrived I claimed but wasn't aware of the proof of value so they just refunded the postage cost, about £6

I price everything I sell incuding RMSD now

Occasionally small recorded items have come through my letterbox, once left outside my door...saves me the hassle of trying to get to the sorting office. Doesn't bother me one bit.

You think RM are bad? Try dealing with DHL, I won't buy from any company that uses them any more.
 
Sorry, if I did offend anybody with what I said, or make it sound like I was suggesting that a postman is automatically dis-honest. It was not my intention.

The postman I have at the moment is nice and friendly. If we cannot sign for a parcel, then he does appear to ask my neighbours (which upsets them, but that is not his fault, and is another matter).

There are unfortunately, in every country, people who are dishonest. It is unfortunate, that for some services where trust is important, that these poeple manage to tar the whole service. The postal service is such a service where you have to trust the employees to perform their jobs. I believe that the majority of our posties are honest people, I have never seen one of them not perform their job to the best of their ability, and with the utmost respect to the items they carry.

Now, airport baggage handlers, they are another matter entirely. :-)
