RSPB Tripods

I was at RSPB Conwy and noticed they sell tripods. They seem decent quality, I was wondering if anyone knows who makes them for the RSPB?

Not sure who makes them, but you can be sure that the RSBP have added a good margin.

Also, the heads are only two-way panning for digiscoping/video, so the camera won't flip for vertical shots.

I think these are mostly designed for scopes rather than cameras.

And as for margin, it's a donation to the RSPB if anything....

Generall I found RSPB gear (mostly binoculars) good quality and value.

cant say for certain but they look to me as though they do go vertical ............

The ones I looked at had a portrait flip (tripod 1 and 2)


They look a bit like a velbon sherpa. Some come with a Gitzo head if thats any use in identifying them.

It seems like I was mistaken - if you look carefully, they do have a flip-top plate for vertical shooting. It doesn't have a separate handle/lever, but should do the job.

Hi, I am the retail development manager for RSPB and just wanted to let you know that the tripods are sourced under licence for us by Viking Optical Ltd based in Halesworth in Suffolk. They are manufactured in China.

They are primarily designed for spotting scopes but will work perfectly well with a camera. Feel free to take your camera into Conwy and ask for a demonstration and a chance to try before you buy. Chris who works there will be only too happy to help. Oh, and just to confirm, the head definitely does flip for vertical shots.

The RSPB does make a worthwhile margin on these products - just like any other retailer would aim to do - but the great thing is that 100% of our profit goes to fund our Conservation programme, so you can be assured that your money is truly well spent.

Brilliant, thanks for the info. I was asking as Ive bought a cheap tripod for now but if I upgrade to a better one I would rather support the RSPB than buy it a few quid cheaper on the interwebs.
