Rugby League - Challenge Cup Final

First photos posted on here so be gentle.

Took the camera (Nikond D40x) to the Cup Final ... and was amazed to find being three rows from the pitch I was able to use it. Not the best pics ever but I had fun ...

The top two are taken with the Nikon AF-S 70-300 f/4 - f/5.6 EF ID and the bottom one with the kit 18-55. Wasn't spending too much time sorting out exposure as was mainly watching the game.

Cracking shots. The B&W actually works quite well. Is the first one Kirk Yeaman scoring his length of the field try?

Couldn't get there this year so had to watch it on telly. We certainly weren't at our best, but I think experience delivered on the day.

Yup - that's the try! I was tracking Cunningham passing and suddenly everything's heading the other way.

It was a good atmosphere this year and nice to have a tight final (even if not a classic in terms of quality) again.

The B&W is a cop out because the contrast looks awful in colour!

Yes, I found the same problem last year. I think it's to do with that bright patch of sunlight that bathes a third of the pitch. Cop out or not, I'd still be pleased with those results.

although i think they do work in B&W i really want to see these in colour, the colour in the crowd, the kits, i just feel like i want to see it.

Great shots though, im not taking anything away from them.

Your wish is my command... I had another look and put a few colour ones together. I still think with the contrast for the action ones that the B&W is better.
