Running a competition

Hi all,

A local tog I worked with recently is advertising a competition on his facebook company page.

Basically, he's after 12 photos of bluebells to go in to a calendar that will then be put on sale. There is no other info, no mention of prizes or condition.

Can anyone suggest the types of T&Cs and other must haves that a competition like this needs?

Well, as no one has responded I managed to contact the tog and ask what T&Cs he has put in to place.

Basically, it's for amateurs not pros so he doesn't feel that copyright should be an issue so hasn't done any T&Cs for it. It's just a 'bit of fun' and the prize for having one of the winning entries? A free calendar and the kudos of having a photo published.

A bit of fun I can understand but he is basically going to be making money from other peoples work. Is it just me, or is this wrong?

I tried to make him realise that he is leaving himself open to problems if he doesn't specify some rules but he won't listen. :S

Blokes an arse if you ask me. Another idiot wanting something for nothing. Whoopee i'd get a calendar with my picture in print on it. I'm so excited i.m going run out now and get some pics for him.

Maybe you should point your friend to this thread and let him read the replies for himself?

T&C are there to cover his backside when an entrant takes offence to someone profiting from their pictures and then later takes him for a trip to the small claims court.

He needs to be honest with the competition entrants. Some may be happy with the kudos but I bet there's some that won't be.
