Another still life shot to ease the lockdown boredom.

This ominous glowing thing is a green pixel crt tube invented by the Soviets. It's essentially a green pixel for a large format display.

A friend of mine managed to get a couple from Ukraine and brought his setup round for me to photograph.

Thanks man, I'm pretty happy with it, some bits I'd like to change if I had more space/time with it.
 
Im really thinking of buying a Nixie clock which are made of these kind of things I think. Im not sure how reliable they are, or what their lifespan is.
 
Nixie tubes are a bit different. I asked the owner of this tube about nixie tubes and he reckons they're good for a couple thousand hours, so probably not a clock to leave on permanently. They do look fantastic though and there's some interesting variations with VFD tubes which we intend to build this year.
