RX100 mark 2 announced

well, the initial previews are saying that it's a stop better than the original which was already the best going in it's class ... Possibly better AF too.
I mean, really what else did you want?
 
It's still too dinky for my liking. they should have added a good grip. Surely that's not a huge task. And it's still too dark at the long end of the zoom. Better ISO on that end was needed.

Tilt screen and slightly better ISO performance, plus hot shoe. That seems to be it. Not too bad, but I expected more if they're to up the price and hope current RX100 users will trade up.

It has a hot-shoe Phil.

Video now does 24fps, which is what most ask for I guess.

I'm not sorry I got the Fuji tbh. I had thought about waiting to see this. But the main issue for me is the size. I just don't like a camera too small.

wifi with NFC. remote control via smartphone seems quite significant ...

No, as I didn't buy the original because it doesn't fit my needs/wants.
& certainly the £650RRP is steep but then so was the initial RRP for the original. From the limited previews that I've read so far though it looks like the new one's extras/improvements are probably worth the extra premium (& no doubt in due course they'll be selling for considerably less than RRP)
 
They did.

I had the first one, but didn't buy new. I paid €400 for a mint used one. [about £340] which was good value. Sold it on for same, I'd just added a rubber grip and threw in a case.

It was a great little compact, but just too small for my liking, always had the feeling it would just fly out of my hands, at a gig, even with the added grip.

And though the ISO performance was decent, it was nowhere near a match for the Fuji x100. Give me a larger sensor with a fixed lens over zoom anyday. Even cropping down on the Fuji images you're still getting better quality that smaller sensor images, especially in low light.

But ... I can see this being very popular. They are great for gigs and shows. The guy I sold my old one too was heading to Glastonbury. Biggest problem you'd have is not losing it!

it did & imo it's quite significant.
As recently as last year Sony's Alphas, NEXs, Cybershots & camcorders were all using different & incompatible flash shoes.
Now they are all becoming aligned with this new multi-interface shoe so can use the same accessories (there is rumoured to be a GPS module ready to go).
 
a faster lens at the long end would have been bigger, so the whole camera would have been bigger (& more expensive)...
Admittedly some of you at least want the bigger size but many don't ;)

remember, Sony probably have an APS-C RX in the wings ...

A stop better? its still got the same F1.8-F4.9 lens or are you talking about anti shake? as thats always a bit of a misnomer as it only helps with static subjects, you still need a fast shutter speed to freeze moving subjects.
 
I think he means a stop better ISO performance. Meaning you should get similar results with this at 1600, as the older one at 800, in terms of clean image.

The high ISO performance of the sensor is a stop better. ie you get similar levels of noise at 3200 ISO as you did at 1600 with the old sensor.
 
Apart from 720/100fps video then Phil, you pretty much want an X100s :D
 
A cropped image from it's sensor will still be better than a zoomed in image from a smaller sensor.

I find it pretty reasonable, it's just like 35mm on an FX body. I could easily live with that if it's all I had. That's how I knew I'd get on nicely with it though, for the past couple of months I've used the 35mm on the D800 most of the time.

For me, a compact it's the compromise of a dslr, not a replacement. Therefore, a zoom is imperative.
 
The fuji isn't a replacement for me either, it's a bit-on-the-side, a more casual, fun cam for lighter journeys. Easier sneak into a gig too! Though i know I will have to do a lot of cropping on that front. It'll still be a lot easier keep still in a croed using it than when zoomed in.
 
Wait a couple of months, the price will comedown a fair bit I expect. I would have done same on the fuji, but wanted it before going on hol's this Sat.

One of the fun things about the fuji is you get free of charge the oldest zoom ever conceived, your legs :D

But seriously one thing it does do is get you looking at angles you didnt bother with before
 
Yup, and Lord knows I need the exercise! :D Just using it the past week and a bit, and I have been having fun just simply heading out to the garden, or down the shops or around the local area, to shoot random stuff. Once you have it set for the conditions, it's a case of running about and clicking, real P&S style! I have taken pictures of people across the table from me without them knowing, in silent mode. It's easier run after the kids, and cats, and especially both at once - than it would be with the dslr. That's for sure. And they seem not to act up as much around it.
