Well i took the wife and kids to West midlands safari park today. I thought i would take the camera and get some shots in while there:'( NO NO NO .

Everything i looked at had a cr@p b/g or just did not look worth shooting. the fences where a nightmare. the b/g's where cr@p just not worth even a snapshot imho:'(

Maybe i am to fussy " I dont think so"

ah well there is always next time.

I have nowhere near your experience Dave but I can really sympathise, I find it kind of heartening to hear its not just me that has days like that.

Here's to next time.

Really - pretty sure I got this shot of a lion there

I had the same experience at Longleat. Horrible fences, roads, gates etc. Gave up on the safari shots and got a bag full of family shots to treasure instead :)

I did get some similer shots to that but when you have been to the whf and taken shots there . Its hard to get the same elsewhere. Plus i will be back there in a month so i never bothered to much with the cats.. the lions where on that bank today . and the lioness's one even rolled for me but  it never looked right:shrug:

I had that recently, but over 4 days instead of just 1. I came back and looked at my shots and tbh none of them stand out as wow. I've sorted a few but given up on them at the moment. It really does put a downer on things but hopefully next time you go out it'll be better!

As you become more advanced, your standards increase and the two can get out of sync somewhat. Your expectations become too high.

Sometimes you have to clear your head of the shots that you hope to take and concentrate on the ones you actually can.

It's a recurring theme for me, but some of my best shots come from a changed perspective.

Graham

There is nothing worse mate, never mind you will get some nice shots on the 22nd mate :D

I am on a photography downer at the moment but everyone gets in it at some stage.

I had some prints come this morning and while checking them over i was unimpressed. dont get me wrong .. nice sharp well exposed cute shots . but they did nothing for me..

I blame all the good togs out there taht i/ we inspire to be as good as...:D

all will be better tomorrow i am sure:lol:

still zoo's suck.

You have no idea how much i am looking forward to this day mate. If i can impove on last year i wll be more than happy..

ah, you just need a photographic hug matey :D See, you been spoilt by WHF and whippy so anything else just doesn't match up ;)

Cheers yvonne:thumbs:

must admit whf is super and whippy is also very good for togging..

 I really need to give whf and whippy a go I think. I really enjoyed our trip to WMSP the other year (or was it last year...). I got some half decent shots to if I remember rightly.

Dave we all go through these phases, as you know. I'm just coming out of the other side of one myself at the moment (I hope!). I'm taking lots of shots when I'm out but only a very small percentage of them are kept. I'm too self critical. I think there may be something in what you said about wanting to live up to other peoples high standards around here

I think you should set up and take lots more baby pics for us all to cluck over ;)

Now that would be great but i have 5 yrs to save for a disney trip 1st.. florida......

:

Aye Florida's experience is expensive, kids will love it so will you. their happy your happy  check out the night parade at Disney world, great colour shots,

and a good chance to do candids
PS my aunt just been 2 weeks £375 each flight and hotel, room only Miami

I think the trick at safari parks etc. is to use long lenses and wide apertures. The narrow field-of-view minimises the background, and you can throw it out of focus.

That's what the shots above seem to have in common.

Ive had, and still do have plenty of days like that mate.

I have a problem where I think 'right i'm going to stop machine gunning and shooting everything and start being really selective, so that I think about everything more and come away with better shots'

Then I end up overthinking stuff, and unnecessarily restricting myself, and not shooting when I should be lol

It's all part of the fun :D

If i get some shots half as good as your shots last year mate then i will be chuffed, getting a shot of a 100-400 to take with me to go along side the 70-200 f2.8

I know what you mean have had spells like that.
If you are ever up north Chester zoo is worth a go.
Some of the enclosures are really good although there are crap ones too its definately worth going
