Morning all

I need some advice, i shot a Wedding saturday, Ceremoney was at 3pm and i finished at 9pm. At 2:30pm the Brides mother pasted away, part of my job for the day was to get as many shots of the brides mother as possible but she didnt make it.

The problem i have now is all the shots i have of the Bride and her in tears or looking very unhappy (as you can imagine) i tried to focus the day on the other guests as much as possible keeping an eye on the Bride to get the odd shot were shes smiling.

Do i supply the shots of the Bride in tears and looking her worst? obviously i need to supply shots of her and i have maybe 15 where shes smiling but still looks like she hasn't slept in a week.

What would you do?

perhaps wait

the pictures/album have little priority ATM

then have a private viewing with B&G

let them choose which ones for an album

Wow, that is a difficult one.

Personally, out of professional courtesy, I would give them the choice of a free photo shoot for just the two of them in a few weeks time so they can have pictures of the happy couple looking happy.

It would go down as a very nice gesture and do your reputation no harm either!

Thats a a nice thought, would you do this with or without Wedding dress?

As above... Let the Bride take the lead. Send a message of condolence over, and ask her to contact you later, when she feels up to it

I had a gooms dad pass away of heart attack at the wedding some years ago, I let the couple contact me and gave them the shots I had (only up to leaving the church) In my case the wedding stopped as the groom left in the ambulace with his dad. But they'll get in touch when they get sorted out no doubt.

I agree, give them space but let them know that you are there when they are ready to catch up with you. The shoot is a good idea and I would say let it be their choice for clothing.

I'm guessing you've not shot the family in the past so don't have any of the mum? If it had been post wedding and the mum had been there you could have supplied a print of her as a gift.... again, in a little while.

No first time i have met the family, the bride didnt find out her mum had past away until after the group shots, but she knew she was in a coma and didnt really look like she wanted to be getting married that day, I am in contact with the family as i have popped a few photos on Facebook some of the better ones to try cheer her up for a small moment. I will offer the shot, think that is a grand idea.

Many thanks guys

Once had the brides mum pass away in between taking the wedding and getting the photos back to the married couple. The bride was delighted to have some pictures of her mum looking her best with her as they came out really well. It was very awkward I just gave them a great deal of time to deliver the photographs to them, I did contact her explaining there were some lovely images to remember the day and her mum so she appreciated it.

Such bad timing for them, there's not really much you can do or say in the situation you were in.

Tough for all concerned..I think James has the best idea. Offer the shoot, might give a brighter moment for them...and then give them space.

I have sent her a message telling her i would like to do a B&G shoot etc free of charge. i'll leave it at that until i hear from them

I have another Wedding this Saturday where the Bride is dying from Cancer, only given 6 months, so the Wedding has been put together by friends as they couldn't afford it. all services are being given for free including me, Not the best 2 weddings to be fair. Another were the groom would love extra photos of the Bride (Understandably) but again she doesn't look her best so feel the pressure is on this week aswell as sorting these shots out

You might find that wedding a joy to shoot. A friend of mine had a wedding in similar circumstances, who sadly has now passed away. But her wedding was one of the nicest (but of course most emotional) ceremonies I had ever attended. Everyone was happy, not least the bride herself. Very good of you to do it for free, and like the idea of the free b&g shoot for the last wedding, I'm sure b&g will really appreciate it.

Didn't think of it like that lol, yeah hopefully will be a great day
