Safari Li-on Portable Flash System

Hi, I have been looking at the safari li-on port. Flash system and thinking bout buying, was looking at elinchrom rangers for a while but in my studio I have bowens with quite a few modifiers so didn't really wanna have to sets of modifiers! Then I seen lencarta safari portable system which of course have the same fittings as my s-type bowens and thought this be no brainer!!!
Does anybody use or won this kit would be great full of some info, see that they have greater power and faster recycle time than the rangers plus there accessions are reasonable priced and will work with my studio bowens and have been wanting a ring flash for a while!!

There are lots of threads lately on these... Garry might be along shortly but failing that either scroll down or do a quick search ;) but in the studio and lighting forum

I think it was a member called Hoppy who did a review on these and other systems for a magazine. If I remember right ( which I might not as I'm drinking vodka) the safari kit came out tops.

Might have done ;)

Quite a few threads on the Lencarta Li-ons, they're unbeatable on power per £, genuine 600Ws, great battery, and S-fit. Only slight downside is average flash durations, if that's important.

Hoppyuk when u say ave flash duration, does that mean recycle time?
I seen there triggers can sync upto 8000th of a sec, but only on Nikon! Will this ever be available for canon? I've just moved from Nikon!!:(
 
No Richard means the length of time that the flash is bright for when taking a photograph. In many cases you want a really short flash duration to freeze action. If you have a longer flash duration moving limbs, moving water etc can look blurred in the photograph. If you are shooting relatively static objects then this isn't a problem. If you are used to the shorter flash duration of say a Speedlight/flashgun then you may be surprised by the difference in flash duration depending on what you photograph.
For what I use location lighting for I require much shorter flash duration and also quicker recycle times so I hire Profoto gear (Pro-7b, although the new Pro-B4 is a marvel of engineering and I am looking forward to using one next week)

Yea have been looking at profotos gear but way too expensive, worth it but really outa my range at moment, just spent 8k on upgrading camera gear, I use studio lights at moment but they ain't that portable and are monoblocks, I would be using them for portraits and fashion mostly so I don't think the lencarta safari would be a prob,

Really thank you for you feed backs, these forums are truly priceless and u can't get this info from local togs!

Flash durations and x-sync is a whole other question. Lots of stuff on that if you scroll down the lighting forum, and it can get quite techy and complicated, but if you're not shooting action subjects don't worry about it.
 
Fine for now, if I ever do need lights for action I could hire profoto!!

The lencarta Mach 1 triggers are only available for Nikon. But the pocket wizard flex tt5 does hyper sync for Nikon and canon and (with the cash back pw currently offer) are only £40 pair more
 
Are they that's worth considering plus can use them with bowens and speedlites.

Yes they are, I use them to trigger Bowens heads and they allow Ttl with speed lights

So will I be able to use them the same as The Mach1N triggers, high speed sync if set up properly I my camera, sorry if silly q's but new to camera and I could easily setup this up on my nikons to high speed sync with my sb900's!!

Yes, but you need to be clear about High Speed Sync (Nikon's FP-sync), Peak-Hypersync and Tail-Hypersync. PW does them all, and a few other things besides. Info on the PW website.
 
I have a question on light ratios for the Safari Li-on.

The battery unit supplies 600ws in total, 2 heads at 300ws each - can a longer cable be used on the second head, to effectively drain a further stop of light to around 150ws - given that a longer cable is rated as reducing the power to a head by approx' 1 stop?
