Safe and simple LI-Ion Battery cover

Why on earth don't all Li-Ion batteries come with cases or protectors of some sort ?
we use them in phones, cameras or in my latest case pocket digital radios.
Yet all the manufacturers say the terminals must be kept safe from accidental contact with metal objects.

This morning I came up with the Idea of covering them with a rubber band, but could not find one wide enough,
However I did have some wide black knicker type elastic, so with a couple of rows of stitching came up with this.....
(any sort or rubber or elastic would do equally well.)

Could use a small beer koozie too... maybe be the right size too.

I use insulating tape on the batteries with recessed contacts and keep others in their original plastic covers (EN-EL3(e)) or a neoprene pouch (assorted Fuji batteries). Not got a dead bicycle inner tube at the moment but will save the next one I kill and see if it can be pressed (or stretched!) into service. Thanks for the inspiration.
 
Great idea Terry, if someone takes up marketing something like this maybe people will be able to send batteries through Royal Mail once more without having to play 20 questions.
 
It is probably too cheap to market as a retail product.

Though sellers of Batteries could give it away, in the form of a printed rubber ring, with their logo etc, when they sell replacement batteries.

They could then be produced and sold to retailers or magazines in bulk (as a low cost item) as part of their publicity /marketing budget.
