Hi, I would like to shoot birds and was wondering if a Sony SAL20TC would work with my Tamron 16-300mm? I'm working with my Sony A77II. Anyone any experience? Thanks!

It won't and even if it did the image quality would be rather bad with no AF. Not to mention at long end aperture would be f13 which in the UK practically unusable most of the year.
All in all a bad idea.

You are better off looking for a Sony 70-400mm or tamron 150-600mm G2.

If you must try though you can get a kenko 2x TC that'll work but once again image quality will be terribad. You'd be better off just cropping 2x.
