Just a heads up for anyone with this phone l.I have just put the 2.3.5 update onto via Odin (not out on kies) and have to say I am very very impressed.faster,less buggy and feels like a new phone!
 
Odin is a software to flash Samsung phones without using kies. Its a unreleased firmware.I personally wouldn't call it a beta but as its unreleased I suppose it would be classed as one.
 
Try looking on xda.they have a few unbricking guidelines!hope you get it working again. Oh and on GPS issues try GPS aid.might help!

it wont turn on it wont even speak to the computer when plugged in so i cant see anything sorting it, it just annoyes me it was going well put all the right stuff in right places, clicked start lasted about 5mins then said failed,
 
Can you boot into recovery mode?

I believe you hold down the volume up button, along with home button then press and hold the power key.

Not sure if it's vloume up or down. One of them puts the phone into download mode for using odin etc and the other puts it into recovery mode which allows you to factory reset.
 
I thought this would be risky. Seems I was right.

Was it worth it just to get a dead phone? Why not get it done (with non-hacked software) by the shop that sold you the phone and that way let them take the risk

It's not risky, this is a standard way of flashing the software.

ALL the guides warn against ticking the box, Scott just had a REALLY bad day :help:

So it looks like I do get the first prize for properly bricking a GS2. The dudes at the service center couldn't even get it to switch on using their jig.

The good news is that they sent me a new one, and it arrived in the mail today:D

The only question now is whether I'll be brave enough to try rooting it again :p

Interesting... The USB jig can get it into download mode usually, so it sounds like something went BADLY wrong...

the one posted states to tick all 3 boxes vow so i did:lol: wish i had not now, well its going back to samsung to see if they can fix it, either way i will get it back or a new one, i tried updating it with kies before and it would start and then fail,to be honest i have had nothing but probs with the phone updating as i said kies soft bricked it before and i brought the usb jig to get it into download mode then had to flash it with the stock firmware then update it with kies that was fine, but my wifes phone everytime has been fine.
 
There's a newer update out now (to fix some sort of wifi bug in XXJVS) update is i9000XXJVT, available over at XDA Developers.

I prefer the stay stock (and keep warranty), it's too easy to permenently brick the phone with these modded custom roms.

Even at that link they say:

dave did you see i bricked my galaxy with via installing an custom rom and samsung fixed it no probs, i also have the usb jig that tells the phone its got proper firmware on and gets rid of the symbols,

The DialAndroid link is for S2 Firmware, the Galaxy S & Galaxy S2 are different phones & if you tried to put the firmware on the wrong phone........El Bricko

Having to send the phone away (and hope Samsung don't invalidate the warranty because of the custom firmware) and having to mess about with the homemade jig are actually 2 reasons I avoid custom firmwares, there are plenty of stock ROMs around to play with.

As mrgubby has correctly said, there are 2 different Galaxy S phones, this thread is about the older Galaxy S i9000, while the link you posted is custom firmware 2.3.7 for the Galaxy S2 i9100 (the title of the linked page correctly states Galaxy S2), trying to use firmware for the newer Galaxy S2 i9100 is 100% guaranteed to brick a Galaxy S i9000.

The problem with "stock ROMs" is that the are full of Orange/O2 etc bloat, a nice stripped back custom ROM lets the phone work properly :clap:

I've been using a "Cogntion " ROM in my S2 for months now. Fast , Stable & simple :thumbs:



Obviously you let everybody else try the ROM first :naughty:

Plenty of vanilla stock roms, completely bloat free and only the vital Google apps included.
