Does anyone have any thoughts on the Samsung nx100? There don't seem to be many posts about it on here, but seems to get ok reviews elsewhere.

I want to get a compact system camera to use when I don't want to carry my DSLR. Would rather have a compact system camera than a point and shoot due to image quality.

I have been thinking of a panasonic gf2 or gf3 but Argos on eBay have the following for £170 delivered which seems a bargain:

Samsung NX100 body
20-50mm kit lens
Off camera flash
Bag
4gb SD card

I'd then probably also get a 30mm pancake to make it more pocketable but like the fact that I'd also have the zoom.

Pros I can see:
Price
Image quality
Zoom is fairly small (eg smaller than Panasonic kit lens)

cons
No on board flash (although comes with a hot show flash)
Small range of lens (but I'm hopefully only going to get a pancake lens after I get the kit lens with it)


Any thoughts?
 
I bought a GX1 with exactly the same thing in mind. Lack of any viewfinder made me buy a G3 quickly after. Eyesight that means I can't close focus without changing glasses plus inability to see the back LCD in bright conditions quickly put paid to me being happy with a camera without a viewfinder...

However, £170 for an APS-C sized sensor is great value...
 
I had one for a month a few months ago (in fact bought from Argos on eBay for that price and sold it for same price used, although didn't include the flash, bag or card back then)

Good points
The IQ is very good and matches DSLR (as expected)
The build quality is nice and the functions work well

Bad points
Not many lenses available (although that is not a concern for me)
AF speed not as good as a DSLR
No viewfinder (that was the killer for me as I hate taking photos at arms length)

So having tried out a few cameras of this type I have gone back to a entry level DSLR with a light prime lens as the size and weight is not that different (it still needs a bag as will no way fit in a pocket) and I get a decent viewfinder, good performance, battery life etc, etc,.

If your only requirement is a slightly smaller camera with good IQ then this is a good camera, especially for the price. The IQ is noticeably better than the much smaller sensor alternative P+S
 
I have had a NX100 for over a year now, bought it as an everyday camera, for shooting the kids, and also for when i coldnt be arsed to carry the 5D2 around. It's a great camera, gives excellent results, colours are lovely. I shoot the family in Jpeg and my other stuff in Raw. The software and Raw convertor that come with it are awfull, really really awfull, not intuitive to use at all. Mine came with a flash, which i got rif of, and i recently got the EVF for it, they have come down significantly on Ebay. I have the 20-50 lens, i don't use the i function as much as i thought i would, it's not a massive range for a zoon, and not very pocketable either. I also have the 30mm pancake, which is an excellent lens, not cheap but well worth it, makes it more carryable.
