On the quest for a landscape lens. Does anyone have any experience of the Samyang 14mm - particularly on a full frame body?

I understand it's manual focus which isn't a problem as I'd be using manual for night/astro photography anyway.

What concerns me is filers for landscapes....having never used an UWA lens before, will I be able to use my current set of grads? (Hitech 85mm) Or will the vignette badly?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

If you see a side photo of the lens you can see why it doesn't have a filter thread. Its like a fisheye the glass protrudes a fair bit.

Its the next lens on my list to buy for my A7R for landscapes and i just love UWAs.

Yeah I've just noticed that - I hadn't realised it was so fisheye'd.

I'd love one too, mainly for night stuff (just itching to shoot the milky way), but looking at the filters that this crazy holder takes it would mean replacing my current set of grads which isn't really an option.
 
Samyang 24mm F1.4 is a far better lens imo for night photography and it takes normal grads.
Might not be wide enough for the milky way, it depends how much of it you want in the frame.
I've owned both lens, kept the 24mm and sold the 14mm.

Yeah I did consider the 24mm as well but, just as the 14mm might be a bit too wide, I think the 24mm might not be wide enough. Think I'll still hold out and try to find a Tamron 17-35....it's 2.8 at the short end so would do for both star shots and general landscapes. Pity they're like hens teeth in Canon fit!
 
Well mine outlived 17-40mm. I got rid of the L in despair considering how soft it was compared to Samyang.

S14 will be horrible in unedited RAW file. You'll need to download Lightroom profile for your 5D which will do all the hard work in a single click. It is really sharp from edge to edge even after corrections. Just bare in mind that it is enormously wide and I would only use it for toilets, double rainbows or some big mountains from close by (i.e. I can't walk back far enough!). 24mm does pretty much all I need, and 21 would be for sure wide enough.

Filters - you could just blend exposures if you need. I really struggle to justify expensive system for a lens that gets used maybe 5-10 times a year.

I'll probably get rid of it since 16-35L f/4 is out. There is hardly any point keeping it any longer.
